Forecast remains on track for this evening with only a few tweaks
necessary to temperature trends. By and large, shower and
thunderstorm activity across north and central Georgia has tapered
off for the night. However, cannot rule out some isolated
thunderstorms for our far south/southeastern tier as convective
activity continues and moves northward along an outflow boundary
exiting southern Georgia.

.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Thursday)

- Hot and muggy conditions will persist through Thursday with
heat index values as high as 100-104 expected Thursday
afternoon.

- Only isolated diurnal showers and thunderstorms are expected
this afternoon and Thursday afternoon.

The most recognizable feature on satellite this afternoon is the
spin of the weak low pressure disturbance over the western Florida
panhandle. Locally, there will not be too much impact from this
feature with the exception of a plume of deeper tropical moisture
that will skirt primarily our southwestern counties. Any shower and
thunderstorm activity this afternoon will be isolated with slightly
higher coverage possible in these southwest zones. Convection will
then quickly wane with the loss of diurnal support after sunset.

Little in the way of change can be expected on Thursday. The
midlevel ridge centered over the western Atlantic will expand its
grip farther westward across the area as the aforementioned weak low
moves toward the southeastern Louisiana coast. As such, high
temperatures are likely to be a couple of degrees warmer than today,
ranging from the low to mid 90s areawide outside of the mountains.
Afternoon apparent temperatures will likely reach the 100-104 range
across the bulk of the area Thursday afternoon with a few spots
potentially nudging 105, though these values should be isolated and
transient enough to preclude a Heat Advisory. Any afternoon/early
evening convection will again be quite isolated before diminishing
after sunset.

.LONG TERM...
(Friday morning through next Tuesday)
Issued at 214 PM EDT Wed Jul 16 2025

- Isolated to scattered thunderstorms through much of the long
term, including the weekend.

- Weekend heat remains a concern, with the potential for
temperatures in the upper 90s to near 100, and Heat Index
values forecast to reach 106-110.

Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue with
daytime heating through the extended period as ample moisture
remains trapped under the subtropical ridge. Overall, though, the
forecast trend has trended the PoPs down slightly in favor of a
slight uptick in temperatures.

Heat Advisories will likely be needed in the long term, and as
early as Friday or Saturday. The oppressive, humid conditions will
likely push temperatures into the upper 90s to near 100 across
much of the area, with Heat Index values nearing 110 in some
portions of central and eastern Georgia by Sunday.

Into next week, the heat and diurnal convection continues, as is
typical around here during the dog days of summer.
