.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Monday)
Issued at 237 PM EST Sun Dec 14 2025
The first real taste of cold is already starting to settle in
across the area after a cold front moved through earlier today.
Strong NNW winds at 15-20mph will continue to gust to around
35mph. Winds are expected to ease late this evening as front sinks
further south. But as the sun goes down, temps are expected to
drop to the coldest we`ve seen yet this year. Overnight lows in
the teens are expected across the CWA with wind chill values
falling into the single digits. A Cold Weather Advisory has been
issued for the entire CWA so please plan for a chilly morning
commute.
The start of the work week will continue to be cold and dry,
though temperatures are expected to rebound some on Tuesday as
ridging from the west builds in and pushes off the upper level low
that brought us the cold in the first place. High pressure will
allow high temps to return to the 50s and 60s with overnight lows
closer to freezing which is closer to what we`d expect to see this
time of year.

.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday morning through next Saturday)
Issued at 237 PM EST Sun Dec 14 2025
The long term will start off with another morning of chilly
temperatures as surface high pressure and the anomalously cold
airmass remain over the region. Temps around sunrise on Tuesday
will be in the low to mid 20s across much of the region under
clear skies and light winds. Following this chilly start, a
warming trend will take place through Thursday as the high shifts
off to the east and a ridge slides to our south across the Gulf,
sending a more seasonable (but still dry) airmass into the region
within low to mid level SW flow. Low temps will climb to the low
to mid 30s Tuesday night, and upper 30s to low 40s for Wednesday
and Thursday nights. Highs warm from the low to mid 50s on Tuesday
to the upper 50s on Wednesday, with low to mid 60s on Thursday.
Our next notable chance for rain appears very likely from mid-day
Thursday through Friday, as a strong mid-level trough and
associated frontal boundary ejects out of the Plains and slides
across much of the eastern US. As has been the case with the storm
track in recent weeks, the surface low will remain well off to
the north over the Great Lakes, so our only concerns would be
coverage and intensity of rain, which will be determined by how
much moisture moves through with the frontal boundary. The
guidance consensus has 0.25-0.5" across much of the area, with
some of the higher end guidance at 1-1.25" in north GA. There will
be a brief `cool` down following this front Friday night, with
lows dropping back down to the low to mid 30s. After that, the
overall guidance consensus is favoring warmer and drier than
normal conditions for the weekend into early next week as ridging
starts to build across much of the CONUS.
