...Afternoon Area Forecast Discussion...
.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Tuesday)
Issued at 257 PM EDT Mon Sep 8 2025
Key Messages:
- Dry air is in place, and precipitation is unlikely through
the period.
- Daytime highs will be in the upper 60s to mid 80s, and
overnight lows in the low 50s to mid 60s.
Scattered clouds persist over northern and central Georgia, though
they continue to thin. Some cumulus is developing around terrain of
north Georgia this afternoon, as well as over portions of central
Georgia. Moisture is limited, with the 12Z FFC upper air sounding
showing 0.85 inches of precipitable water, which is near the 10th
percentile climatologically (10th percentile for 12Z on September 8
is 0.81 inches). There are multiple inversions below 700 hPa, as
well, further inhibiting any potential for development of
precipitation. Precipitation is not expected today across northern
and central Georgia, and PoPs for most of the area remain near 0 for
tomorrow, as well, except closer to the southeast, where PoPs
tomorrow afternoon are up to around 15 percent.
Gusty winds out of the east/northeast continue this afternoon, with
speeds of up to 10-15 mph, with gusts to 20-25 mph. Later this
evening into tonight, winds will gradually slacken, to around 5-10
mph by early tomorrow morning.

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday morning through next Sunday)
Issued at 257 PM EDT Mon Sep 8 2025
Key Messages:
- Dry conditions expected through the short term.
- Gradual warming trend to slightly above normal temperatures by
late week.
Discussion:
Extended forecast remains dry through the extended period as
surface high pressure remains in place under broad upper level
trough over the eastern CONUS. This surface level riding will keep
the area PoP free, except for a small area in east central Georgia
that has a non-zero but low chance. Additionally, this setup will
support warming high temperatures through the week, though surface
wedging will keep these highs from soaring well into the 90s. In
general, expect afternoon temps in the mid 80s to near 90 (1-6
degrees above normal) by Thursday, and plateauing through the
weekend. Overnight lows should stay largely in the 60s, with 5-10
degrees cooler in the mountains.
Unfortunately, beyond the weekend looks to stay similarly warm.
The global model ensembles have the above-normal late-summer
temperatures persisting into next week. Here`s hoping we can get
another taste of false fall. Or just go ahead with real fall.
