.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Sunday)
Issued at 152 AM EST Sat Dec 13 2025
The near term will be characterized by a significant swing in
conditions through the weekend. Continued southwesterly flow will
bring increasing moisture and warm conditions once more this
afternoon. Highs will be 5 to 10 degrees above normal across the
state.
Conditions swing quickly as we move into the overnight hours. A
digging upper level trough will enter phase with the subtropical
shortwave bringing an arctic airmass into the south. The leading
edge coldfront will be enough to trigger some showers along the the
I85 corridor and areas south, however limited moisture will mean
accumulations are fairly light (well below 0.5" for most). Winds
pick up significantly behind the front with sustained winds of 15 to
20mph and gusts in excess of 30mph. CAA will be aggressive and
temperatures will drop throughout the day on Sunday. Expect the
warmest temps on Sunday to be in the morning. See the long term
section for further discussion on cold weather products.

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday night through Friday)
Issued at 152 AM EST Sat Dec 13 2025
The long term begins with some of the coldest air of the year across
the CWA on Sunday night as an Arctic airmass continues to blast into
Georgia. Overnight lows look quite cold - in the teens across north
Georgia and the metro and low 20s further south into central
Georgia. High pressure will be settling in overhead so winds should
begin to decrease through the night. Air temperatures alone will be
almost cold enough to warrant issuance of Cold Weather Advisory
through Monday morning across much of the CWA. Any wind that remains
would likely bring wind chills to that criteria. At this time,
chances of seeing Cold Weather Advisory issuance are pretty high
(>80%) over the next 24 hours, unless models begin to diverge
tremendously.
As high pressure settles in, Monday looks to be the coldest day of
the week for many (outside of parts of north Georgia Sunday). Highs
across the area will be in the low to mid 40s. A rapid warming trend
begins after this as the surface high is quickly pushed to the east.
SW brings moisture and warmer air back to the area with highs
returning to the 50s and 60s by Wednesday. Aloft, deep upper level
wave looks to move across the upper Great Plains Thursday, pushing
another front towards the area and bringing our next chances of
rain, though just how much (or if it will be any at all) is still
very much uncertain.
